| Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine devoted to the study of disorders and diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract -- stomach, intestines and associated organs. Diseases and conditions such as peptic ulcer, gastric cancer, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative coloitis, Crohn's Disease, colorectal polyps and cancer are treated by gastroenterologists.
Liver diseases, such as Hepatisis C, also are managed within the discipline. Diseaes of the gallbladder, biliary system and pancreas, inlcuding gallstones and pancreatic cancer, are diagnosed and treated by gastroenterologists.
