Intercoastal Medical Group (IMG) is a professional association of 56 physicians in 14 specialties with six locations in Sarasota and Manatee counties. IMG physicians are board certified in each of their specialties and are staf members of both Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Doctor's Hospital of Sarasota.

Family practice physicians blend the concepts of the traditional "family doctor" and the experience if three additional years of specialized training in the fields of Medicine, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Surgical Diagnosis and Minor Surgery, Gynecology and Psychological Counseling. Emphasis is placed on preventative medicine and the comprehensive care of each family member and the family unit as a whole. If the services of a specialist is required, your family practitioner would recommend and work with the specialist to provide ongoing care.

Internal medicine specialists, also known as internists are physicians who have three years of specialty training in all aspects of adult medicine ranging from critical illnesses which require hospitalization, to more routine problems such as urinary or respiratory tract infections. As with family practitioners, internists also work with specialists to manage chronic problems such as pulmonary disease, diabetes and other illnesses.

One of our physicians, Dr. Mark Weinberg, specializes in bridging the gap between traditional medicine and alternative health care practitioners in a practice called "Consultations in Integrative Medicine". Dr. Weinberg's aim is to integrate the body, mind and spirit in total health by bridging the knowledge of Western medicine and the healing traditions of other cultures. Dr. Weinberg, who is board certified in Family Practice, also offers the following therapies: herbs, homeopathy, bach flower essences, craniosacral massage, cell salts, exercise and nutrition, the role of spirituality in health as well as energetic healing techniques including Reiki, Yoga, Qigong and Body Talk.

Patients who need laboratory work or other diagnostic services will be referred to one of Intercoastal's laboratories, all of which feature state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment operated by trained and experienced technicians. Service provided by our labs include x-rays, CT scans, mammograms, MRI, bone density testing, as well as complete blood testing.

In our quest to provide comprehensive care and services, IMG opened a state-of-the-art 10,500 square foot Ambulatory Surgical Center in November, 2003. The Ambulatory Surgery Center is a multi-service facility designed to accommodate a variety of surgeries, including upper and lower gastroenterological endoscopies as well as plastic, podiatric, gynecologic and orthopedic surgeries as well as surgeries of the ear, nose and throat. The Center makes every effort to cater to families, with a waiting room that features a work station, kitchenette, television and VCR.
